At a recent clinic I was approached by some students suggesting, with my 60 yrs in the martial arts, I should put my thoughts & teachings in a blog.
To this day I feel I'm still a student. I'm posting this blog not to change anyones mind, but to share my personal experiences & thoughts on karatedo ..no style, no politics . The following are some of my general feelings on karate.
* There are 2 kinds of karate. Budo, for martial arts & self defense. Sport, for winning medals & trophies. Both are beneficial.
* Karate is 80-85% feeling. Without feelings, spirit, & imagination you're only using skeletal muscles.
* Practice DOESN'T make perfect......practice makes permanent. If you practice wrong, it will never be right .
* Always ask questions. If you don't understand or are confused ASK. The old saying "shut up & train" seems to encourage students to continue doing techniques blindly.
* Concentrate on the small things. Improving one small thing can improve many big things.
